Ensuring a Successful Audit: Effective Risk Assessment Design
On June 6, 2017, Pharmaceutical Processing facilitated the webinar “Ensuring a Successful Audit: Effective Risk Assessment Design,” which was sponsored by Particle Measuring Systems. I had the opportunity to host this discussion as the moderator of the webinar.
Below is the abstract of the webinar:
When designing a process, product quality is an important measure of success. To ensure product quality, it is imperative that the environment is monitored for contamination. The best way to locate sources of contamination is via risk assessment, which is best performed before a process has been implemented. There are multiple tools to assist in completing a risk assessment, and—once completed—continually updating this body of knowledge works to guarantee a defensible monitoring program is developed and enacted.
What you’ll learn:
- Monitoring basics (includes types, locations, frequency, etc.).
- Considerations for evaluating media.
- Alert and action levels.
- Purpose of risk assessments.
- Decision criteria and criticality factors.
- Risk assessment tools.
- Case study: Assessing Risks to Aseptic Processes.

Encapsulation: Practical Strategies for Risk Management
On December 6, 2016, Pharmaceutical Processing facilitated the webinar “Encapsulation: Practical Strategies for Risk Management,” which was sponsored by Capsugel. I had the opportunity to host this discussion as the moderator of the webinar.
Below is the abstract of the webinar:
Encapsulated products are on the rise as new chemical and biologic entities require their simplicity, elimination of heat, and expedited speed to market for smaller targeted cohorts. The ability to use capsules successfully in the manufacturing environment starts with the earliest decisions by formulators making appropriate choices and concludes with operations providing the targeted training and equipment optimization.
What you’ll learn:
- We will present various applications for particle micronization in pharmaceutical formulations and its use with a range of complementary technologies.
- Application of micronization to enable specific drug formulations will be described through representative case studies.
- The range of milling process and equipment choice and capabilities will also be discussed, including choice of mill type and process parameters, containment/high potency requirements, and scale-up considerations.
